The Baltimore Cinematic Universe (BCU) is a production company promoting positive images of Baltimore to worldwide audiences. We are a diverse collective of filmmakers uniting the local TV and film industry under a common goal to reimagine Baltimore in mainstream media.
The BCU is a for-profit company founded in 2025 by Emmy award-winning TV producer Imani Muleyyar. All executive decisions are overseen by an advisory board of recognized industry veterans. The BCU also administers a workforce development program to train and certify locals to work in the TV and film industry.
Projects are produced in partnership with other Baltimore-based production companies. These companies also help facilitate the workforce development program by providing mentorship, access to resources, and job placement opportunities.
Operating funds for the BCU are provided in part by donors through our fiscal sponsorship with the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Baltimore Filmmakers Collective.
To bring a new vision of Baltimore to the world.
For too long, the worldwide perception of Baltimore has been based on images of crime and disparity perpetuated in TV, film, and news media. By producing equally impactful images reflecting the city's historic decline in violent crime and vast improvements to infrastructure, we can change the public perception of Baltimore to encourage people to visit, live and work here.
We also want to help combat poverty and uemployment in Baltimore by bringing a new trade industry to the city. Through our TV and film workforce development program, we provide trade skills and job placement opportunities to locals who may be struggling with traditional means of employment.
